Inspiration

The client, a doctor by profession, wanted to rent the unit out on AirBnB as her investment. We wanted to achieve the following:

  • Modern, minimalist, hotel ambiance, straightforward, sleek, sophisticated, clean lines as the main design element and neutral tones for a warm, clean, cozy, and timeless vibe

  • Low maintenance / easy to clean

  • Mid-range budget

  • Reuse of existing furniture and accessories to minimize cost

Main Area

  • Reused existing bed frame, sofa bed and accessories

  • Made use of materials that were easy to maintain

  • Straightforward, sleek, clean lines as the main design element

  • Other incorporated elements:

    • Mirrors to make the space look bigger and brighter

    • Built-in padded headboard to create softness and contrast with the hard surfaces

    • Indoor faux plants were also used as an accent to complete the look

  • Almost everything was built in, all accent light fixtures like wall sconces were also built in to achieve a clean and organized look.

  • We used indirect lighting like covelights and downlights in warm white to set the mood and to add drama.

Kitchen

No major work was done in this area to minimize cost. We just made a provision for the microwave in the overhead cabinet as one of her main requirements; and an accent lighting underneath to liven and light up the space.

Toilet and Bath

No major work was done to minimize cost. We just added a mirror with cove light to create an illusion of a bigger and brighter space, and a glass shower enclosure to create a sense of termination between the shower and toilet area. We also changed the lights in warm white to set the mood and to add drama.

Most Memorable Experience

It’s really hard to work during this pandemic. Naabutan pa kami ng 2-week lockdown-ECQ. We had to work double time to minimize our time on-site with fewer workers and staff than usual to observe social distancing. Due to the condo admin’s limited work force caused by the Philippines’ 2nd Covid-19 surge, we were informed last minute that there were parts of walls that cannot be chipped. This explains the exposed wire moldings of power outlets. Minimal on-site inspection and meetings with the client were replaced by numerous video calls. Plus ang hirap sa site ng naka-mask and faceshield! Super init!
