Inspiration

The team behind this obstacle course race training gym aims to have a playful and collaborative indoor playground. The color scheme used was purely neutrals with an accent color of teal which represents the gym’s brand. In color psychology, teal is the color of restfulness as well as mental and spiritual balance. This color also perfectly balances out the hard finishes that were used for the entire space since the goal is for each and every user to have an encouraging and comfortable workout experience.

The indoor playground was divided into 3 areas which are the strength training and free weights area, group exercise and the obstacle course area itself. For each area, enough space allotted for each individual to do their own warm-up and cool down stretching routine if they opt to. The materials that were used for the flooring are a combination of rubber mats and turf rolls.

Strength Training and Free Weights Area

The strength training and free weights area offers various kinds of equipment such as an Olympic bench, rowing machine, hammer and tires, kettle bells, treadmill as well as assault and stationary bikes. These gears and equipment will surely help the members in developing better body mechanics since they focus on balance, coordination and posture.

Group Exercise Area

The group exercise area was strategically placed in the middle so it would be easier for the members to be synchronous while doing workouts together. It is also for ease of accessibility for all the members to be grouped when other users are using the different kinds of obstacle in the facility. It will also be more convenient for the coaches to oversee the individuals who are using the various obstacles. The group exercise area is strategically positioned as the focal point of the fitness center since it can be converted into an activity space if there may be special events.

The different obstacle courses are purposely scattered around with a momentous flow to train its members in experiencing a glimpse of an actual obstacle race if they eventually decide to participate in one. This gym features a heavy bag as well since they offer Muay Thai classes to enhance the stamina and endurance of the members. The facility provided exercise mats to be used for general fitness activities and also features a mini bouldering and peg wall that focuses on building strength and balance skills. There is also a built-in bench that serves as a storage for members’ belongings and recovery area.

Most Memorable Experience

As the time constraint was a limiting factor during the construction phase of Obstacle Central, this stage also served as a physical work out for the whole team behind this physical fitness center since everyone involved placed their minds and bodies into the tasks needed to be accomplished just to be able to meet the turnover day from the purchasing of materials needed for the labor works such as painting the gates, walls, benches, and other surfaces that needed finishing.

Indeed, this obstacle course gym and training facility was truly a labor of solidarity and keenness since all partners were hands on which really is a key ingredient in creating a successful space.
